Experiences · The underlined dates

Celebrations

The calendar underlines certain evenings, and those are precisely the ones hardest to spend alone or with the wrong company: New Year's Eve with its enforced joy, Christmas with its empty chair, Valentine's with its couples in every window, the birthday nobody remembered to make special. I take celebrations personally: the champagne should be cold, the company warm, and the evening worth the date it lands on.

I have strong views on midnight. Mainly that it deserves better.

The occasions

Evenings with a date attached

31/12

New Year's Eve

The most requested night of the year, and rightly: dinner, the slow build to midnight, a kiss that is not a formality, and the first hours of a new year spent exactly as you would design them. Book weeks ahead; this one goes first.

25/12

Christmas & the dark days

For the traveller far from home or the man for whom December echoes: candlelight, a proper table, warmth without pity, and conversation that has nothing to do with how you are coping.

14/02

Valentine's, birthdays & private milestones

The promotion nobody toasted, the divorce that finalised, the birthday that ends in a zero. The evening is built around the fact that this date matters to you. I bring the sense of occasion; nobody has to explain it.

This suits you if

Celebrations are for

  • The one who refuses to let the year turn while staring at a hotel ceiling.
  • The traveller whose December happens far from anyone who knows him.
  • Anyone with a private milestone that deserves champagne and a witness.
  • The planner: festive dates are the ones I am asked for earliest, and the first to be gone.

And not for

Anyone hoping the season softens the arrangements. A festive date is still a date: screening, deposit and etiquette exactly as always, only with better outfits. And last-minute December miracles are rare here; the calendar is kind to those who write early.

The practical part

The tariff ignores the calendar

The rates on The Hours do not change for festive dates. No seasonal surcharges, ever. What changes is the notice: New Year's Eve and Valentine's are typically spoken for weeks in advance, so the early note wins the evening.

A celebration pairs naturally with the longer invitations: six hours carries a dinner past midnight, Night Into Morning lets the new year begin properly, and a suite saves anyone a cold ride home.

Asked and answered

How early is early enough for New Year's Eve?

The honest answer: as soon as you know you want it. The realistic answer: by early December the night is usually decided. Valentine's follows the same physics, three weeks out.

Can a celebration be discreet?

Completely. A festive evening reads as exactly what it looks like: two people enjoying an occasion. Where we celebrate, and how visibly, is tuned to your comfort like everything else.

The date is already circled

Claim the evening before the calendar does.

Name the occasion, the date and the hours, and whether we celebrate somewhere sparkling or somewhere quiet. Festive requests are answered in strict order of arrival.

Midnight, done properly, is my speciality.
