At a quarter to midnight he went quiet, and I let him. Fireworks had started over somebody else’s roof, the bottle in the ice was doing nothing useful, and he told me who he had spent the previous three New Year’s Eves with and where she is now. Then he asked me for one thing at midnight, and it was not the thing a website would guess. A date on the calendar holds no opinion and takes no view; it collects whatever you happened to be doing as you went past it. That one collected something decent. He laughed at ten past twelve, for the first time all evening.
I have strong views on midnight. Mainly that it deserves better.

The season does not soften the arrangements. A festive date is still a date: screening, deposit and etiquette exactly as always, with considerably better outfits. Last-minute December miracles are rare here, and the calendar has always been kind to whoever wrote first.
The practical part
The rates on The Hours do not change for festive dates. No seasonal surcharges, ever. What changes is the minimum: New Year's Eve is held for one guest only, at Night Into Morning or longer, and Christmas and Valentine's begin at six hours, because no evening worth the date leaves after three. The notice changes too: these dates are typically spoken for weeks in advance, so the early note wins the evening.
A festive date pairs naturally with the longer invitations: six hours carries a dinner past midnight, Night Into Morning lets the new year begin properly, and a suite saves anyone a cold ride home.
One thing never appears on the bill: the shape itself. Every experience on this site is included in the hours. The only additions are real ones, agreed in advance: date expenses such as dinner and travel, a suite when I arrange one, or specific items an evening asks me to buy.
The honest answer: as soon as you know you want it. The realistic answer: by early December the night is usually decided. Valentine's follows the same physics, three weeks out.
Sad is the ceiling of a hotel room while the fireworks belong to other people. Choosing precisely the company you want, on precisely the night that matters, is the most deliberate thing anyone does with a December. I take the underlined dates seriously, and no evening of mine has ever felt like a consolation prize.
